2004 Season Awards

Members of t he Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop (SCDW) received seven awards for productions in their 2004 Season from the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) at the state community theatre organization’s 45th Annual Festival, held in Auburn , New York the weekend of November 19, 20, 21. A group of six representatives from the SCDW attended this year’s Festival, including TANYS Award recipients Sean O’Neill of Loch Sheldrake (Excellence in Acting as Stanley in “Brighton Beach Memoirs”) and Chip Woloszczak of Hurleyville (Meritorious Achievement for Light/Sound Design and Execution for “Crossing Delancey”).

Other TANYS awards went to Zoot of Narrowsburg (Meritorious Achievement for Light/Technical Design for “Crossing Delancey” and “Brighton Beach Memoirs”), to Rachel Kurtz of Washingtonville (Excellence in Acting as Nora in “Brighton Beach Memoirs”), Jacob Tanenbaum, formerly of Monticello (Meritorious Achievement in Acting as Eugene in “Brighton Beach Memoirs”), Ann Prusinski of Mountaindale (Meritorious Achievement in Acting as Blanche in “Brighton Beach Memoirs”) and Carla Randolph of Walden (Meritorious Achievement in Acting as Susy in “Wait Until Dark”).

TANYS sends “roving adjudicators” around the State to various community theatre groups to critique productions on several levels. Adjudications can be for learning purposes only, or to enter into competition at Festival with other groups from around the State. Although none of the SCDW shows this season were chosen for Festival, it was quite an honor to receive the prestigious awards. While not exactly TONYS, TANYS is the closest community theatre comes!

Founded in 1950, the SCDW is the area’s longest standing community theatre – providing and promoting quality theatre in Sullivan County, offering people interested in any aspect of theatre a niche in which to hone their skills and providing countless audience members with hundreds of memorable performances. Our 2005 Season will be announced shortly. To learn more or become involved, phone 434-7232 or find us online at www.scdw.net
